What is my DOSHA?

What is my Dosha, and how do I know? #dosha #Ayurveda #quiz #doshaskintype

We are asked, what is a Dosha? What does it mean to pacify a Dosha? What does this all mean anyway? Here is a simple explanation and a little quiz to help you.

In ancient Ayurveda, Doshas are biological energies present in the body and mind that play a central role in Ayurvedic medicine. Vata, which is associated with air and space, is connected to creativity, flexibility, and movement. It regulates cell division, cell signaling, and waste excretion. Pitta, linked with fire and water, governs digestion, metabolism, vision, and attention, as well as emotions. Kapha, associated with water and earth, provides stabilizing energy that supports structure and growth. Each person has all three doshas from birth, but they combine uniquely in every individual. Typically, one dosha dominates, forming a person's Ayurvedic constitution, or prakriti. Doshas are determined by a person's distinct ratio of the five natural elements: air, earth, space, water, and fire. Ayurveda utilizes doshas to help individuals comprehend their constitution, health imbalances, and the types of foods that can aid in restoring balance.

Why do we want to know what our Dosha is when choosing skin care or body treatment?

When one can recognize Dosha imbalances, then they can comprehend the nature of their own skin and or body imbalances. From there, can select lifestyle practices, Ayurvedic dietary items, ayurvedic remedies, and skincare regimens to aid in rebalancing.

MISSION Day Spa has customized Ayurveda blends to pacify the Doshas. What does that mean? To pacify means to balance. Let's discuss...

In the practice of Ayurveda, balancing the doshas involves utilizing opposing forces to achieve equilibrium.

For instance, to balance an excessively cold dosha, one can introduce warmth. Here are several methods for balancing different doshas:

Vata, characterized by cold and dry qualities, can be balanced with warm, oily, moist, and nourishing foods. Additional approaches include: Consuming nuts and seeds in moderation Engaging in yoga and meditation Surrounding oneself with warm colors and aromas Establishing a daily routine.

Pitta, can be pacified by consuming cooling foods, such as: Fresh, grounding, and carbohydrate-rich foods Mild beverages like fresh juices Avoiding pungent, sour, and salty flavors Imbalances Imbalances can be addressed by employing opposing forces. For instance, if one's dosha is overly active, creating a serene, tranquil environment can be beneficial. Maintaining a harmonious balance of the doshas is crucial for overall physical and mental well-being.

Please take note of the following information:

In Ayurveda, pacifying Kapha dosha involves balancing the qualities of Kapha, which are heavy, dense, and cold, through diet, lifestyle, and herbal treatments:

- Eat the right foods: Consume warm, light, dry, and lightly spiced foods. Favor foods that are pungent, bitter, or astringent, and avoid sweet, sour, and/or salty foods. Also, avoid heavy and oily foods such as cheese, French fries, nuts, or pastries.

- Exercise: Engage in regular physical activity like yoga, walking, running, or swimming to keep your body fit and eliminate toxins.

- Stay warm: Kapha types are sensitive to cold and damp places, so it's important to stay warm. You can achieve this by eating warm foods, sitting in a sauna, or bundling up during the winter.

- Stimulate your body: Introduce new things into your daily routine to keep yourself interested and stimulated. You can also try dry brushing your skin to stimulate lymphatic circulation and drainage.

- Massage your body: Massaging with soft powders like chickpea or rice flours can balance Kapha by stimulating the lymphatic system and encouraging circulation.

- Practice Nasya: Nasya is the practice of applying an herbal oil to the nasal passages to awaken the mind and senses.
