because it's not just about breast cancer any longer...
October is a month that evokes thoughts of Halloween, the changing of leaves, new fashion trends, and the transition of seasons. It also raises awareness for cancer, as it is a month dedicated to recognizing all types of cancers and celebrating the survival of those who have battled breast cancer.
Here are some statistics:
In 2024, the American Cancer Society estimates that:
New cancer cases: 2,001,140 new cancer cases will be diagnosed in the United States
Cancer deaths: 611,720 people will die from cancer
People who will hear they have cancer: More than 2,000,000 people will be diagnosed with cancer, which is about 5,500 people per day
Cancer types: Breast cancer will be the most common cancer diagnosis, followed by prostate cancer, and then lung and bronchus cancer
Cancer deaths by gender: 288,920 women and 322,800 men will die from cancer
According to a CBS News poll, 54% of Americans have been diagnosed with cancer or have someone in their immediate family who has been diagnosed.
This month, I find myself reflecting on those I've lost while feeling grateful for those who are still with us. For those who know me, you’re aware that I lost both my parents to cancer: my mother to lung cancer in July of 2022 and my father to pancreatic cancer in February 2024. I also lost my aunt to a rare blood cancer in 2021, along with other family members, to various types of cancer. My husband lost both of his grandfathers to colorectal cancer. On a brighter note, another aunt is a breast cancer survivor. Additionally, my sister-in-law is a six-year survivor of rare blood cancer.
Personally, I have had sessile serrated adenomas (precursors to colon cancer) removed and have dealt with skin cancer, while my sister has also battled skin cancer. Given all this, we are deeply committed to supporting this cause and have created a comforting spa that offers treatments safe for those who have undergone significant health challenges.
At times, I feel a strong desire to help and contribute meaningfully. I believe our spa can make a difference, though it sometimes doesn’t feel like enough.
I’d like to hear from you—what have you done to help or contribute? Whether it’s a phone call, a homemade meal, or a grocery drop-off, I know these gestures can provide loving support for someone in need. I'd love to see where your ideas and contributions can help inspire the next person.
Don't miss our friends @hillcountrychronicles, who are offering a giveaway pamper session with us, an overnight stay at @thlazylavender, and swag from @junkgypsy for someone who could really use it. (Don't miss out on this!)

If you would like to contribute, there is still time. Join me in bringing light to the darkness of cancer by donating towards my fundraising efforts in support of The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's (LLS) Light The Night.
